Mikeal Beland is a Sony Pro, PPA photographer & cinematographer, designer, and Creative Director of Lotus Effects, a 4K digital media production, marketing and design studio. His work is characterized by emotive narratives and composition, bold color and broad dynamic range. Mikeal's work has been featured in publications, commercial advertising, art galleries, and philanthropic auctions in Europe, Asia, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, and other US locations since 2006.

Starting in college at the University of Washington, he worked as a web development, design & photography freelancer while traveling 20,000 miles across the Western U.S. to explore national parks and protected environments. During the 2008 financial crash he moved east to work for a  celebrity fashion photographer in Tribeca & a vertical portrait studio in Chelsea, NYC; there he debuted as one of GLAAD’s Top 100 International Artists at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. In Seattle, he collaborated with non-profits and documented social justice movements of marginalized communities. He also hosted and participated in art shows across the city, including scholarship fundraising for the Greater Seattle Business Association.

In 2014 he established Lotus Effects in his hometown of Bozeman, Montana. Since then he has worked with the entertainment, music, design, fashion, food, hospitality, healthcare, and media industries in locations across the US. His first book, Biophilia (2019) is an ongoing exploration of climate change in America's national parks, spanning the Everglades in Florida to the Rocky Mountains, Pacific Northwest and Sierra Nevada of California.
